About Braintree Coaching Australia
Our mission
Braintree Coaching Australia is an Australian exam-preparation provider (not the PayPal payments service) that helps families prepare for the selective high school, Opportunity Class and scholarship tests. We are based in Strathfield, in Sydney's inner west, and teach live online classes to families across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia.
We measure ourselves on one thing: did your child arrive at the test better prepared, calmer, and more themselves than they would have been without us. We do not promise placements, and we do not sell certainty in a process that has none. What we offer is qualified teaching, full practice papers, and written feedback on every piece of work.
More than 5,000 students enrol with Braintree Coaching Australia each year, across both our free resources and our paid courses. The free tools — the selective-entry score calculator, the practice-paper library, and the weekly class timetable — stay free because most families start there long before they decide whether a paid course is right for their child.
What we teach
Our courses prepare students for the NSW Selective High School Placement Test, the Opportunity Class (OC) Placement Test, and independent-school scholarship exams. Each program covers the sections those tests assess — reading, mathematical reasoning, thinking skills, and writing — and is taught by qualified Australian teachers who mark to the same criteria the real exams use.
Classes run live and online, so a family in regional New South Wales works with us the same way a family in Strathfield does. Every student writes under timed conditions, every piece of writing comes back with feedback, and every parent can ask the teaching team a direct question about where their child stands.
The principles we won’t bend on.
These are visible in the room if you sit in on a class. None of them are negotiable, even when we would make more money by bending.
Teach the thinking, not the answer
The selective and Opportunity Class tests recombine a limited set of question types. We teach your child to recognise the underlying pattern, so an unfamiliar question on test day reads as a variation of something they have already solved — not a past paper memorised by rote.
Mark every piece of writing by hand
Writing decides placement for many borderline students. Every piece your child writes is read and marked by a teacher against the published marking criteria, with written feedback — not graded by software.
Keep classes small enough to teach
Live classes are kept small enough for a teacher to give each student individual attention and written feedback, rather than broadcasting to a large room.
Be honest about your child's chances
Not every child needs coaching, and the test is not the only path. We tell parents what we genuinely think about preparation and fit, even when the honest answer is that another route suits their child better.
Keep the core tools free
Our selective-entry score calculator, practice-paper library and weekly class timetable are free to use, without a login or an email form.
See what an honest preparation looks like
Talk to the teaching team about your child's year level and goals, or sit a free mock paper first — whichever suits where you are.
