Queensland Academies results: timing, outcomes and next steps

Quick Answer
The Queensland Academies (QASMT, QACI and QAHS) do not publish cutoff scores and do not release individual test results to families. Outcomes are typically communicated by email in late Term 4, roughly nine to ten weeks after the test date. Each applicant receives one of three outcomes — an offer, a waitlist or merit-pool position, or an unsuccessful result. Selection is holistic, weighing entrance-test performance alongside school reports, NAPLAN results and, for shortlisted applicants, an interview or portfolio, so there is no single score to interpret.

Once your child has sat the Queensland Academies entrance assessment, the wait for results can feel longer than the preparation itself. Braintree Coaching Australia prepares students for entry to QASMT, QACI and QAHS, and this page explains how results are reported within our Queensland Academies preparation programme — when outcomes arrive, what each outcome means, and what to do next. For the paper itself and how it is scored, see our Queensland Academies test format guide.
When are Queensland Academies results released?
Queensland Academies results are typically released in late Term 4, roughly nine to ten weeks after the test date. Outcomes are communicated by email to the address provided in the application, so keep that inbox monitored through the final weeks of the year. Interview invitations, where a campus uses them, are generally issued earlier in the term, ahead of final offers. Exact dates vary by year and campus, so confirm the timeline on the official Queensland Academies website for the year your child applies.
How are Queensland Academies results scored and reported?
The Queensland Academies do not publish cutoff scores and do not release individual test results or diagnostic reports to families. Each component of the EduTest-style assessment is scored and converted to a percentile that compares a candidate against all test-takers, but families receive an outcome, not a score breakdown. Selection is holistic: test performance is weighed alongside school reports, NAPLAN results and, depending on the campus, an interview or portfolio. Because there is no single number to interpret, a balanced result across every component matters more than a standout in one section.
What do the possible outcomes mean?
Each applicant receives one of three outcomes.
- Offer. A place has been offered. Accept by the stated deadline, complete the enrolment paperwork, and attend any orientation. If your child holds more than one offer — for example a Queensland Academy and Brisbane State High School — decide promptly and notify the schools, because a declined place is passed to the next applicant.
- Waitlist or merit pool. Your child performed strongly but a place was not available in the first round. Merit-pool applicants remain eligible for an offer if a place opens later, for example when another applicant declines. Keep a backup school plan in place and watch for further communication.
- Unsuccessful this round. A place was not offered. This is not the end of the academic pathway — many students reapply for Year 10 entry, pursue a Program of Excellence at a comprehensive state school, or continue in a gifted program at their current school.
What are the next steps after an offer?
If your child receives an offer, respond by the deadline to secure the place, then complete enrolment and fee paperwork and attend any orientation sessions or campus tours. Because the Queensland Academies deliver the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, it is worth beginning to familiarise your child with the breadth and inquiry style of the IB ahead of the preparatory year. The academies are state schools, so there are no tuition fees for domestic students, though some materials and excursions carry costs.
What if the result is a waitlist or unsuccessful?
A waitlist or merit-pool result means keeping options open: maintain a backup enrolment, continue strong academic work, and watch for late offers, which do occur when initial offers are declined. An unsuccessful result is a prompt to consider alternatives rather than a verdict. Many families targeting the Queensland Academies also prepare for Brisbane State High School, which uses the ACER HAST — our Brisbane State High School selective entry preparation hub covers that pathway. Programs of Excellence at comprehensive state schools and private-school scholarships are further options worth investigating.
Where can families confirm results information?
The Queensland Government publishes the authoritative description of each academy and its admissions process at the official Queensland Academies website. Treat it as the source of truth over any third-party summary, and confirm dates each year because they change. To revisit what your child sat, read our Queensland Academies test format guide, and for the questions families ask most about applications and outcomes, see our Queensland Academies FAQ.
